Andy Bateman Supporting Duchenne's

While KMD Rider Andy Bateman didn’t tackle the Goulburn to Sydney last weekend, he did  take three days to ride from Sydney to Canberra, raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.

Andy and 22 of his riding buddies covered the 400 odd km in three days stopping at numerous schools and organisations to share about their journey and talk about muscular dystrophy which affects 1 in 300 Australians – including the son of one of our Manly Warringah Cycling Club members Gary Oliver.

Andy said “It was an inspiring ride for us all – multiple stops along the way at schools to meet children, the University in Wollongong to meet researchers and in Canberra to meet with various ministerial offcials. We even had Tony Abbott join us for the final 15kms up to Parliament House and we got the chance to deliver our message to parliament. We were also fortunate to have two parents on the ride of young boys suffering with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Their resilience was truly a testament to the human spirit. Whenever you feel like life is tough or unfair, then listening to the stories of these parents who have to live with Muscular Dystrophy and watch their children slowly fade away puts it all into perspective.”

Andy was able to raise $3753 – if you would like to help you can support him here.

The Tour also made the Highland News (well done)
